Where can I get free legal advice on the Gold Coast?

Community Legal

As Andrew Bell discussed on Episode 1 of Legal Matters, there are excellent free legal advice options on the Gold Coast.

My Community Legal is a registered charity providing free legal advice sessions:

Robina — Thursday Nights

  • Format: Walk-in (no appointment needed)
  • Staff: Between 7 and 10 volunteer lawyers plus law students
  • Areas covered: Civil law, family law, migration, employment, fencing disputes, insurance, and more.

Southport — Tuesday Nights

  • Location: St Vincent’s, Southport
  • Format: Advice sessions (check their website for current times)

What to Expect

  • A qualified lawyer will sit down with you and discuss your legal issue.
  • You will receive honest, unbiased advice — the lawyers cannot take you on as a client following the session.
  • Sessions are ideal for:
    • Checking whether you have a valid case.
    • Understanding your options before committing to paid legal representation.
    • Getting a second opinion on advice you have already received.
  • If your matter is complex, they will recommend you see a solicitor and can point you in the right direction.

Other Free Services

  • Legal Aid Queensland: Means-tested free legal representation — legalaid.qld.gov.au
  • QCAT (Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal): Self-represented applications for disputes under $25,000 — qcat.qld.gov.au
  • Legal Matters on 4CRB: Call in every Tuesday at 9:00 AM on 4CRB 89.3FM to ask Andrew Bell a legal question live on air.
