A Domestic Violence Order (DVO) places strict, legally binding rules on a respondent’s behaviour.
Mandatory Condition: Every DVO issued in Queensland includes a mandatory condition that the respondent must be of good behaviour towards the aggrieved and must not commit domestic violence against them.
Additional Conditions: If the Magistrate believes it is necessary, they can impose very restrictive tailored conditions, including:
- Ouster Orders: Forcing the respondent to move out of the shared family home immediately.
- No Contact Conditions: Preventing the respondent from contacting the aggrieved by any means (phone, text, social media, or through third parties).
- Distance Conditions: Banning the respondent from coming within 100 meters of the aggrieved, their workplace, or their children’s school.
